Overview
The cloth carrier supports handling and can suit textured or fibrous materials, depending on the adhesive construction. Carpet backing varies widely, so a successful bond on one covering does not establish suitability for every carpet, mat or textile. The receiving floor requires its own compatibility check.
Temporary exhibition flooring and a longer-term installation have different priorities. A high initial grip is not proof of clean removal, and a removable construction still needs evaluation on the actual finish. Follow the flooring supplier's installation guidance and agree on the condition expected after removal.
Typical Applications
Carpet positioning
Fix suitable carpet edges or sections where the flooring system permits tape. Review the backing texture and tape layout together rather than selecting solely by roll width.
Exhibition and event flooring
Evaluate temporary fixing for display areas and event installations. The venue's floor finish, installation duration and handover condition are central purchasing requirements.
Textile attachment
Join selected fabrics or flexible coverings in suitable display and assembly tasks. Test adhesive contact with both materials, particularly when fabric finishes or coatings are present.
Selection Guide
Identify the material pair
Supply the carpet backing and floor finish, such as coated timber, tile or sealed concrete. Describe texture and porosity; a broad flooring label can conceal important differences.
Define removal expectations
State temporary or longer-term use and acceptable residue. Include the removal date and method in the trial, especially on decorative, rented or recently finished floors.
Evaluate the installed area
Test the proposed tape pattern under representative foot traffic. Inspect edge lift and movement while ensuring the fixing method follows the covering supplier's recommendations.
Purchase specifications and acceptance
| Confirm | Include in your enquiry |
|---|---|
| Dimensions and tolerances | Width (mm), roll length (m), thickness (µm or mm), core size and tolerances. State whether thickness means the backing or the complete tape, and whether the liner is included. |
| Tape construction | Required backing, adhesive type, colour and liner, where applicable. Include the materials to be bonded and a sample or drawing when available. |
| Performance and acceptance | Required properties and acceptance limits, with the test method, substrate, application conditions, dwell time and service conditions. Compare results only under equivalent test conditions. |
| Packing and delivery | Order quantity, rolls per carton, labelling, destination and required documents. Confirm the agreed specification, sample and delivery terms before ordering. |
Dimensions and performance depend on the selected grade. Confirm the specification and acceptance criteria in the quotation, sample approval and order documents.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will double-sided cloth tape leave residue on the floor?
It may, depending on the adhesive, floor finish and time in place. For temporary installations, specify the required removal condition and test a discreet representative area through the planned installation period.
Can I use the same tape on every carpet backing?
No. Woven, coated and foam-backed coverings can behave differently. Share the backing information or a sample and verify both adhesion and removal before approving the tape for a larger installation.
How is cloth tape different from PE foam mounting tape?
Cloth tape uses a textile carrier and is often considered for flexible coverings. PE foam tape adds a cushioning carrier for mounting joints. Their construction and installed thickness serve different selection needs.
