Overview
A traction tape combines a textured top surface with an adhesive backing. Abrasive and other textured constructions serve different environments, and a product intended for shoe traffic may not suit barefoot use. The backing also needs to conform to the receiving surface without leaving unsupported edges.
Tape is only one part of managing a slip hazard. Cleaning, drainage, lighting and the condition of the underlying surface remain important. A category name or visible texture is not proof of a particular slip rating; request relevant evidence for the proposed grade where the project requires it.
Typical Applications
Stairs and step areas
Evaluate traction strips on suitable stair treads or access steps. Follow the installation guidance for placement and edge treatment, and inspect adhesion across the complete strip.
Ramps and walkways
Consider appropriate tape constructions for defined foot traffic areas. The slope, contamination and exposure must be part of the assessment rather than assuming one texture suits all ramps.
Equipment access
Add a specified textured surface to compatible access platforms or steps. Irregular metal surfaces may require a different backing from a smooth, flat floor.
Selection Guide
Check the substrate
Identify concrete, metal, tile or painted finishes, including texture and porosity. Loose coatings, moisture and contamination need attention before adhesive tape can make reliable contact.
Match traffic and exposure
State footwear, frequency of use, indoor or outdoor location and exposure to water or oils. Barefoot areas require a separate texture and application review.
Plan inspection and upkeep
Define cleaning methods and regular checks for worn texture or lifting edges. Replacement should respond to the actual condition of the installation, not an assumed universal service life.
Purchase specifications and acceptance
| Confirm | Include in your enquiry |
|---|---|
| Dimensions and tolerances | Width (mm), roll length (m), thickness (µm or mm), core size and tolerances. State whether thickness means the backing or the complete tape, and whether the liner is included. |
| Tape construction | Required backing, adhesive type, colour and liner, where applicable. Include the materials to be bonded and a sample or drawing when available. |
| Performance and acceptance | Required properties and acceptance limits, with the test method, substrate, application conditions, dwell time and service conditions. Compare results only under equivalent test conditions. |
| Packing and delivery | Order quantity, rolls per carton, labelling, destination and required documents. Confirm the agreed specification, sample and delivery terms before ordering. |
Dimensions and performance depend on the selected grade. Confirm the specification and acceptance criteria in the quotation, sample approval and order documents.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can anti-slip tape be applied outdoors?
Some grades are intended for outdoor environments, but suitability depends on the construction and surface. Share rain, sunlight and temperature exposure, and follow the preparation and installation requirements of the proposed grade.
Will anti-slip tape stick to rough concrete?
Roughness, porosity and dust can limit adhesive contact. Assess the concrete condition and follow product-specific preparation guidance. A conformable construction or other surface treatment may be needed; test before covering the full area.
Does anti-slip tape guarantee that nobody will slip?
No. Footwear, water, oils, wear and maintenance all affect the installed surface. Select against the application requirements and any relevant test evidence, and retain the site's broader inspection and hazard-control measures.
